Health Tip of the day – Drink lots of water

water glassOne of the simplest things you can do to improve your overall health is to drink plenty of water. There are so many reasons that this simple tip is important. Many people mistake thirst for hunger. The signals are similar so if you feel hungry, you may actually be thirsty instead. Your body is mostly water. In order to preserve normal bodily functions, you must stay properly hydrated.

The advice you hear most is to drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water each day. Not drinking enough water can have serious consequences. For example, if you are working out in the blazing sun for hours and you don’t ingest water, you can faint or even worse, suffer a stroke or even heart attack. It is no joke and if you are really old or really young, you are especially susceptible to the effects of dehydration.

Drinking lots of water helps your body to rid itself of toxins. In order for your kidneys to filter your blood properly, you need water. Additionally, the fat burning process also requires water so if you want to keep losing weight, you’ll need to keep drinking water.

Another thing that benefits greatly from being properly hydrated is your skin. Dehydration will affect your skin’s health, so if your skin is dry and/or is irritated, then it’s a good idea to check your water intake.

If you are prone to bouts of constipation, then that’s another reason to watch your water intake. If you are even a little bit dehydrated, then you can become constipated. Drink more water and see if it improves.

Have a headache? This can happen anytime, but one of the symptoms of dehydration is headaches. Yes, sometimes your headache can be cured by simply drinking enough water.

As you can see, water is vital to your health. Make it a habit to drink several glasses of water each day. If you are exercising, then adjust your intake accordingly.
