Colon Cancer Prevention and Early Detection: What You Need to Know

Over the past few decades, more people have been surviving colon cancer, and fewer people have been dying from it. This is thanks partly to improvements in colon cancer screening. Screening, the process of looking for cancer or pre-cancer in people who have no symptoms of the disease, can find colon cancer early, before symptoms develop, when it’s easier to treat. Screening can also sometimes find growths called polyps so they can be removed before they turn into cancer.

At Kent Detox we recommend regular colon cancer screening for most people starting at age 50. People with a family history of the disease or other risk factors should talk with their doctor about beginning screening at a younger age.

Several different tests can be used to screen for colon cancer:

Colonoscopy uses a lighted tube with a small camera on the end to examine the entire length of the colon and rectum. If polyps are found, they may be removed during the test. To prepare for the test, you may be asked to follow a special diet and use enemas or strong laxatives (called a bowel prep) to clean out your colon. Most people are sedated during the test.

Flexible sigmoidoscopy is similar to colonoscopy, but examines only part of the colon and rectum. If polyps are found, they may be removed during the test, or you may need to have a colonoscopy later. Bowel prep may be required. Most people do not need to be sedated during this test. If suspicious areas are seen, a colonoscopy will be needed to look at the rest of the colon.

Double-contrast barium enema is a type of x-ray test. It requires bowel prep, but no sedation. If suspicious areas are seen on the test, a follow-up colonoscopy will be needed.

CT colonography (also called virtual colonoscopy) is a scan of the colon and rectum that produces detailed cross-sectional images so the doctor can look for polyps or cancer. It requires bowel prep, but no sedation. If suspicious areas are seen on the test, a follow-up colonoscopy will be needed.
Feacal occult blood test and fecal immunochemical test are used to detect tiny amounts of blood in the stool that could indicate the presence of polyps or cancer. People take these tests at home with a kit they receive from their doctor’s office, along with instructions. A positive result will need to be followed up with a colonoscopy. However, many times the cause is a non-cancerous condition, such as ulcers or internal/external piles.

Regular screening is one of the most powerful weapons for preventing colon cancer. If polyps are found during colon screening, they can usually be removed before they have the chance to turn into cancer. Screening can also result in finding cancer early, when it is easier to treat and more likely to be curable.

Lower your risk

Diet, weight, and exercise all affect your risk for colon cancer. You can help lower your risk by eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, and less red meat (beef, lamb, or pork) and less processed meat (hot dogs and some luncheon meat). Men should limit alcohol to no more than 2 drinks a day, and women to no more than 1 drink a day.

You can also help lower your risk for colon cancer by getting more exercise and staying at a healthy weight. Smoking also increases the risk, so if you smoke, try to kick the habit.

This is my business not just a hobby

This is my business not a hobby – I am committed to success

I had to write this open letter to each and every one of you.  I was fortunate to be introduced to Forever Living over a year and a half ago and absolutely fell in love with the products, but never in my wildest dreams did I realise the potential in growing a business with Forever Living right at the core of it.

I was fortunate that with the help of my team to have made one of the incentives that the business have to offer and I attended an all-expenses paid weekend with the world leaders in this business.

I have to share this weekend with you:

Friday morning we travelled to Telford where we were welcomed at our hotel.  The rest of the afternoon was filled with the most inspirational training.  I soaked it all up, made sure I spent it with people that don’t only talk the talk but also walk the walk.

Even though I have had comfortable expectations and are earning a decent income from building my business, this day made me want it even more.

I had to do a lot of soul searching and now I can confidently say:

I dream big dreams, for myself, for my children, for my husband and my team I coach and mentor.

I have been trained by the best trainers in the world.

AND I never give up.

Saturday was our success day.  At the previous success day I was acknowledged in front of nearly 3000 for achieving what I have within my business.  This month I just saw others go on the stage for their achievements.  I was hungry for more.  Not just financially as it makes life so much easier, but I was hungry to help more people live the lives they dream of.  I want to pay it forward and celebrate this with every one of you.  I will share my knowledge and experiences and be there for you every step of the way.  I will be your cheerleader – I am the most enthusiastic person I know and this will rub off on you.  I will coach you and help you clearly define your goals.

I just wanted to soak it all up and didn’t want the day to end….. It didn’t, we had to get ready for the masquerade ball.  Glamourous dresses, amazing masks and excitement in getting back to the venue.  We danced till 1am.  Never in my life have I been at a corporate function where the dance floor was packed till the music stopped.  We all had fire in our bellies.  We met some amazing people and in our hotel had a large group of top business builders from Ireland.  They entertained us till after 4 in the morning.  I am humbled to now call them my friends and to be celebrating events like this in years to come.

Going to bed that late couldn’t stop any of us being at the exclusive training that was delivered on the Sunday morning.  This just made me realise I am working with the world’s finest leaders and that I share their passion.  I want to make a difference.

We are a great team.  Why would you want to join my team?  That’s not the question…. Why wouldn’t you?  I am committed to excellence and to being a successful leader and I am eager to share what I have and what I know with you!

If you feel like you are stuck in a dead end job, want to earn more even if it is £200 pm or if you want to replace or earn £2000+ pm.

If you want to improve your social life, make new friends and work with a team that will make your dreams happen then I want to make that difference in your life.  I want to be a part of your success story. Call me today.

LOVE ALWAYS

Talita

Colonic & 9 day detox feedback from mum of three

It’s always lovely hearing back from our clients.  Thanks for sharing your journey and for those wanting to know more about anything covered in this testimonial:

Colonic irrigation and fertility

prenancy colonicThe colon is designed to eliminate waste from the body but a combination of poor diet, improper food combining and prescription drugs may have impaired its ability to function correctly. Waste material can accumulate and impact in the colon and become toxic. These toxins can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream leaving the body tired, ill and weak. Toxic overload is responsible for many body imbalances and can limit the body’s ability to assimilate friendly bacteria and affect the absorption of vitamins & minerals. The body will be in a toxic state and in need of detoxification

Colonic hydrotherapy has been found to be the most effective process available to cleanse the colon of harmful toxins. The treatment helps restore the pH balance in the body, stimulates the immune system and will greatly assist the functioning of the digestive system. It has a beneficial effect on all other major organs, allowing the body to function more efficiently. Cleansing also works on an emotional level helping to eliminate anxiety and stress.

The well-being of the whole body is significantly enhanced and the body will be in a more receptive state for conception.

We do not say that colonic irrigation is a miracle conception tool but we have great success stories within the clinic.  We pride ourselves in our support to those that are embarking on their fertility and conception journey and would love to help you too.

What does a colonic hydrotherapy treatment consist of?

20130518-170842.jpgColonic hydrotherapy (also known as colonic irrigation) consists of slowly introducing warm filtered water into the colon under low pressure, via a small tube. When the colon is filled, the water is allowed to flow out through a larger tube, bringing with it any poo, wind and toxic waste that have been loosened. This process is carried out a number of times during the treatment, which can lasts up between 35 & 55 minutes. The result is a gentle flushing of the colon, and a loosening of old compacted poo. By boosting the detox process through colonics, you allow your body to cleanse itself from the inside out and improve the body’s ability to heal and look after itself.

Why cleanse your body?

Body cleansing is both a short-term and a long-term process. In the short term, you periodically implement a healthy detox programme to help flush toxins that have accumulated in the body. Long term, you can make changes in your daily habits and lifestyle. This can occur gradually over time. You can choose to change 2 or 4 habits a year, for example increase your filtered water intake, eliminate coffee, do deep breathing exercises in the morning, eat more vegetables and fresh fruit or take more exercise.

Ten top delicious detox tips

Detox doesn’t have to be about self-denial.

Detoxfruit.jpgA less extreme approach to cleansing your body where you eat fresh, healthy food, rather than cutting food out altogether, means you’re far more likely to integrate healthy eating into your daily life for longer.

Here are femail.co.uk‘s ten top tips to a delicious detox

1. Go for tasty food: When people think of a detox, they think of the denial of good food, or even no food. The result of an extreme detox is a very hungry, deprived person.
There is plenty of tasty food and many delicious recipes packed with herbs and spices that all have healthy detoxifying properties. Garlic, for example, cleanses the liver and drives away infection, while beetroot helps to purify the blood.  That’s why eating a variety of delicious food blended from fresh herbs and spices means you are far more likely to stick to healthy eating.

2. Detox gradually: Slowly integrating detoxifying foods into your life also means you are more likely to integrate these foods into your daily routine for longer, rather than seeing detox as a hardship and therefore more likely to give it up.
A less extreme approach where you eat fresh healthy food, rather than cutting food out altogether, means you suffer fewer side effects such as bad headaches and diarrhoea. It also allows you to carry on with life without feeling ill or tired.

3. Cut down on caffeine, alcohol and nicotine: Cutting down slowly, rather than cutting out stimulants altogether, is a more effective way to maintain a detox regime, claim naturopaths. Cutting down your caffeine intake for example, or making it weaker than normal, will stop you suffering from severe symptoms such as headaches often associated with extreme detoxes.
For alcohol, limit yourself to one glass of wine a night and if you are a smoker, cut down to a few before cutting out nicotine altogether.

4. Choose organic food: According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body is able to break down naturally formed food such as organic food more easily than non-organic food that can contain chemicals. Food containing chemicals can cause inflammation in the gut that can lead to infection. Organic products tend to contain better quality vitamins and minerals that are absorbed by the body, helping to fight off disease.

5. Eat plenty of fibre: Fibre found in pulses, grains, cereals, brown bread, brown rice, buckwheat and wholemeal pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables should make up 80 per cent of our food. This is because fibre encourages a muscular action in the intestines and colon which pushes the contents of the gut forward and out of the body. The fibre’s texture helps move food through the digestive system more quickly than some other foods.  A high fibre diet also helps maintain a healthy gut. Soluble fibres create ‘friendly bacteria‘ needed to fight off bad bacteria – meaning that your body is less exposed to harmful toxins that could cause cancer.

6. Avoid refined foods: Refined foods such as white bread and pasta which don’t contain as much fibre as wholegrain foods such as brown rice and bread, tend to sit in the digestive system for longer which can encourage bacteria to form. Wholemeal foods stimulate enzymes in the large intestine to be released which helps break down food and flush it out of the body.

7. Chew thoroughly: Chewing food in your mouth, rather than gulping it down, allows saliva to mix in with your food. Saliva turns food more alkaline which makes it less toxic, preventing a build up of acid which can cause inflammation in the gut. Not chewing your food properly also means that it stays longer in your gut, fermenting in your intestine and producing more bacteria which can also cause inflammation which can lead to swelling and sometimes infection.
Also, try not to overeat. The Chinese say you should eat not until you can barely move, but until you are 70-80 per cent full.

8. Drink plenty of water: Drink at least one big bottle of water a day (correct times for drinking water) Sipping it, rather than gulping it throughout the day, means you can avoid taking in air which can lead to inflammation. Although our bodies are made up of around 75 per cent of water, as we unconsciously perspire all day, the body loses water vital for the function of our organs. Water regulates the temperature of our bodies, it keeps our skin moisturised from within, it helps food move through the gut and flushes out toxic material through urine.

9. Take lots of fresh air: Going for regular brisk walks helps bring fresh oxygen to our lungs and helps our blood to circulate more efficiently. This action helps to move toxins around our body towards our kidneys and liver where it is flushed out of the body.

10. Skin brushing: Skin brushing your body with a hard brittle brush brings blood to the skin capillaries which allows toxins to be transported out of the skin pores. Use a long flat motion starting at the feet and working upwards in circular movements towards the heart.
The action of brushing means that you bend your body which also helps bring oxygen to the brain, slowly waking you up.
